Kerala govt to reopen case of Sivagiri mutt head Swami Saswathikananda’s death

The Kerala government has decided to reopen a case related to the mysterious death of Swami Saswathikananda, a prominent member of Hindu Ezhava spiritual centre Sivagiri mutt. 

Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala Saturday told the media that the crime branch would conduct a probe into the spiritual guru’s death following fresh allegations that the Swami was murdered. He said the police have verified that there is fresh evidence, which makes the reopening of the case mandatory.


Publisher of slain blogger hacked to death in Bangladesh

DHAKA (Reuters) - A publisher of a slain online critic of religious militancy was hacked to death on Saturday in the Bangladesh capital, police said, hours after similar attacks on two secular writers and another publisher in the majority-Muslim country.

Faysal Arefin published books by Avijit Roy, a U.S. citizen of Bangladeshi origin who was killed by Islamists militants in the same way in February.


Shiv Sena MP abuses officer on duty, calls him "Aurangzeb ki aulad"

Aurangabad: Shiv Sena’s Aurangabad MP Chandrakant Khaire allegedly roughed up a tehsildar and called him the “progeny of Aurangzeb” who was acting against the interests of Hindus. 

The civic official, Ramesh Mundlod, was leading a demolition drive in a suburb of Aurangabad, Waluj, that also included demolition of illegal temples. Khaire was called in by locals after the demolition team arrived in the morning. 

The four-time MP reportedly confronted the tehsildar and asked him why he was not demolishing Muslim structures. Khaire also allegedly pushed and abused the officer.

Defending his action that was caught on video, Khaire said: “He is the progeny of Aurangzeb. He is breaking the temples of Hindus which no one has dared to do so in this city. There has been an order to break a masjid at Kranti Chowk but no one touches it.” 


Hindu Sena chief held for triggering beef row

Hindu Sena chief Vishnu Gupta was arrested today after his false complaint to the Delhi Police yesterday that beef (cow meat) was being served at Kerala House in the national capital sparked off a controversy. As the storm settled today, Kerala House served buffalo meat for lunch which sold out in 45 minutes.

The police had detained Gupta today morning and questioned him over his complaint. They also submitted a detailed report over the beef row to the Union Home Ministry. The report explained the action taken by the police over the issue.

Desecration Of Six Temple Idols: Bangladesh

Many Hindus took to the streets to protest against the desecration of six temple idols in Gurudashpur upazila in Natore, Bangladesh.

The agitated people also blocked the Natore-Gurudashpur road and demanded arrest of the miscreants behind the attack within 24 hours.

According to the Daily Star, eight masked miscreants entered the temple early morning today and desecrated six idols including idols of Ganesh, Durga and Saraswati, keeping the security men in confinement.
