Idols stolen from Hindu Temple in Tamil Nadu

An unidentified gang stole four idols, including a panchaloha idol, from a temple at Vedaranyam in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu on Wednesday night. The idols were around 100 years old, police said. 

The theft happened at Mariamman temple in Kodiakarai.

A special puja was conducted at the temple on Wednesday evening in view of full moon. The idols of the presiding deities were taken out of a strong room to perform puja.

Hindu Temple Land Grab Case Alleged in Andhra Pradesh

The Andhra Administration actively looking at auctioning Several Hindu temple lands across the state. Allegedly there is an order from Dr. Manmohan Singh, IAS, Special Chief Secretary to the government Instructing all District Collectors to survey and submit records of the endowment lands along with other non-endowment lands. It is also stated in the letter that the Andhra government wants to give away 25 lakh plots under the house to poor people scheme. This letter also cited several other Government orders related to Land Pooling in Andhra Pradesh.

Hindu priest attacked near temple in U.S.

A Hindu priest was attacked by a man while he was walking down the street in his religious garb near a temple in Floral Park, New York, according to a U.S. media report.

Swami Harish Chander Puri said that around 11 a.m. (local time) on July 18, near the Shiv Shakti Peeth in Glen Oaks, while he was walking, a man came up from behind and started hitting him, a local news channel reported. Puri said he was beaten so badly, he had to be rushed to the hospital.
The priest suffered bruises and abrasions all over his body, including his face, in the attack. “I’m in a little pain,” the priest was quoted as saying by the channel.

Hindu Temple Vandalized in Karnataka

Months after some boys vandalised ancient pillars at the world heritage site in Hampi, another such incident of vandalism has come forth from Koppal in Karnataka.

Some unidentified persons on Thursday vandalised the site of Nava Brindavana (also known as temples of spiritual gurus) in Anegundi village of Gangavathi district.

According to the reports, the incident happened in the wee hours of Thursday. Police were informed as soon as the incident came to light. An investigation in the case has been initiated.

The Nava Brindavana site has samadhis of nine saints of the Madhwa community.

Security has been beefed up in Anegundi to prevent any untoward incident in the area following the vandalism incident.

Birmingham, UK: Hindu Temple Vandalised

There have been three incidents in the last month in a Hindu temple in Birmingham, when idols have been vandalised, prompting concern among community leaders and moves to increase security measures.

The incidents were reported in the Shree Ram Mandir in Walsall. The Hindu Forum of Britain said the acts caused much anxiety and sought immediate action from authorities in the Midlands against those responsible.
The local news media have reported the incidents recorded on CCTV, publishing images of the idols vandalised. A temple staff member is reported as saying that the idols were smashed with either a cricket bat or a hockey stick.
The HFB said the incidents were the latest among several in recent months. Trupti Patel, HFB president, said the group itself was formed after a meeting of leaders following such an attack at the Shree Vallabh Nidhi Temple in Wembley.
